Jamarques Robertson, a 26-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 26, 2020. His body was discovered around 3:45 a.m. in the middle of the street at the intersection of Woodwind Drive and Merriewood Drive in Pine Hills. Initially, authorities believed Robertson had been struck by a vehicle, but further investigation revealed that he had been shot.
He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Robertson's death led to the arrest of two individuals, Shariek Williams, aged 23, and Starla M. Stevenson, aged 21. Both were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm. According to an affidavit filed in support of their arrest warrants, Williams and Stevenson had lured Robertson to the location under the pretense of a sexual encounter. Stevenson had agreed to have sex with Robertson in exchange for $200. However, the pair had conspired to rob him of the money, as well as marijuana and prescription pills. During the robbery, Robertson was shot and killed.
Williams and Stevenson were taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail without bond. The case against them was built on the evidence gathered by the Orange County Sheriff's Office, which included the details of their plot to rob Robertson. The tragic incident highlighted the dangers of such criminal schemes and the devastating impact they can have on the victims and their families.
The legal proceedings against Williams and Stevenson were closely followed by the community, as the case underscored the broader issues of violence and crime in the area. The arrests and subsequent charges brought some measure of justice for Robertson's family, though the loss of their loved one remained a profound and painful reality. The case served as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for continued efforts to address and prevent violent crime in communities.
