Willie Alphonso Bell Jr., a 28-year-old resident of Apopka, Florida, died suddenly on June 24, 2023. He was one of the victims of a mass shooting that occurred at the Unity Banquet Hall in Orlando.
The incident took place around 12:10 a.m. on June 24, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the banquet hall. Upon arrival, they found a man inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, who was subsequently rushed to a local hospital.
It was later determined that three other men, including Willie Alphonso Bell Jr., had also been shot. Bell was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other two men who were shot were reported to be in stable condition.
The shooting occurred during an event at the banquet hall, which was operated by Pastor Jonathan Frazier and his wife. Frazier, who also died from injuries sustained in the shooting, was described as a man who had transformed his life from being in prison to becoming a pastor. He was praised for his bravery, as he reportedly tried to protect a young woman from getting shot during the incident.
As of the latest reports, there are no suspects in the shooting, and investigators are still working on all leads. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has offered a $5,000 reward for any information that might lead to an arrest. However, despite the presence of around 50 to 100 people at the event, very few have come forward to cooperate with the investigation.
Willie Alphonso Bell Jr. was born on April 8, 1995, in Orlando, Florida, to Samantha M. Mayes and Willie Bell Sr. He was educated in the Orange County Public School System and graduated from Jones High School in 2014. He furthered his education at Florida Memorial University, earning a degree in Business. Bell operated his own auto detailing service and was known for his kindness, compassion, and love for his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, father, several siblings, maternal grandparents, his fiancée, Armani Hayes, and many other relatives and friends.
