Cerrone Alonso, a 41-year-old resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 16, 2019, in a road rage incident. Alonso, a dedicated motorcyclist and president of the Fort Lauderdale chapter of the Top Gunz motorcycle club, was riding his motorcycle when he encountered Harrison Braga DaCosta, a 29-year-old driver. The incident occurred at the intersection of Cypress Creek and Powerline roads.
Witnesses reported that DaCosta used his car to pin Alonso's motorcycle against the curb before exiting his vehicle and shooting Alonso multiple times. Alonso was rushed to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach but succumbed to his injuries.
The altercation between Alonso and DaCosta reportedly began with a verbal exchange. DaCosta claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that Alonso had cut him off and attacked him with a brick. However, witnesses contradicted this account, stating that DaCosta initiated the confrontation by pinning Alonso's motorcycle and then shooting him. Police did not find any evidence of a brick or rocks at the scene, further undermining DaCosta's self-defense claim.
Following the incident, DaCosta was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
