Carrevious Davis, an 18-year-old, was charged with second-degree murder and contributing to the delinquency of a child. According to court records, Davis had been playing with a silver .38 revolver in the apartment with four other juveniles. Witnesses reported that Davis had been handling the gun recklessly, allowing the underage teens to play with it as well. At one point, a 13-year-old girl picked up the gun and, unable to de-cock it, was instructed by Davis to fire a round into a nearby lake.
The situation escalated when Davis suggested playing Russian roulette. Despite objections from one of the male teens present, Davis continued to handle the gun. Witnesses stated that Davis was still playing with the weapon when it discharged, striking Tatyanna and causing her fatal injury. In the immediate aftermath, Davis fled the scene, leaving the other teens to call 911 and attempt to stop the bleeding. Tatyanna was pronounced dead at the scene, and Davis was later apprehended and held without bond.
