Alphonso Payne Jr., a 33-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed in Winter Haven, Florida, on May 17, 2020. The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. as Payne was walking through the intersection of 40th Street NW and Atkins Drive. He was transported to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries later that morning at approximately 7:57 a.m.
