In a story that tragically unfolded over the course of nearly a decade, a Baltimore man succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred eight years prior. Anthony Williams III, a 31-year-old male, passed away at his home on April 19, 2020. His death was the direct result of complications from a gunshot wound to the neck he suffered during a home invasion on April 3, 2012. At the time of the shooting, Williams was 23 years old.
The initial incident took place in the 5300 block of Bosworth Avenue in northwest Baltimore. Following the shooting, Williams was left in serious condition and faced a long and difficult battle with his injuries. For eight years, he lived with the devastating consequences of that day.
In the aftermath of the 2012 shooting, detectives identified two individuals as suspects: an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy. Both were subsequently arrested and stood trial for their alleged involvement in the home invasion and shooting of Williams. However, both suspects were ultimately found not guilty of the charges brought against them.
Following Williams' death in 2020, the medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy. The findings determined that his death was a direct consequence of the injuries he sustained in the 2012 shooting. As a result, the case was officially classified as a homicide. After this ruling, police and the state's attorney's office were reportedly in discussion regarding how to proceed with the case, given the prior acquittal of the initial suspects.
