Trabis Ward, a former Tennessee State University (TSU) football player, tragically lost his life on October 10, 2020, in Lauderdale Lakes, near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ward, who was 31 years old and a father of three, was fatally shot in the parking lot of J & L Liquors at around 12:30 a.m. on that fateful Saturday. According to reports, Ward had arrived at the location in a party bus, and at some point, shots were fired.
Witnesses described seeing Ward lying on the ground with a gunshot wound, and despite efforts by deputies and Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue, he was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.
Ward's death sent shockwaves through his community and the sports world. Known for his vibrant personality and athletic prowess, Ward had played running back for the TSU Tigers from 2009 to 2012 and had a brief stint with the St. Louis Rams in the NFL. His family and friends were devastated by the loss, with his sister-in-law, Toni, expressing the profound impact of his death on his loved ones, especially his young children.
The investigation into Ward's murder is being handled by the Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide unit. Detectives have been actively seeking information from the public to identify the suspects involved in the shooting. Despite multiple witnesses being present at the scene, the suspects remain unidentified, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
