Demetrius Cox Jr., a 21-year-old African American man, was tragically shot and killed in Orlando, Florida, on March 8, 2021. His death occurred just hours after he was released from jail, where he had been held on murder charges related to a previous shooting incident. Cox had been bailed out by his mother, Jakia Burton, on the day of his 21st birthday.
