On November 1, 2024, 19-year-old male Timothy Schmidt Jr., a freshman at the University of Central Florida was fatally shot during a mass shooting in downtown Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred around 1:07 a.m. during Halloween celebrations, when a large crowd had gathered in the area. Schmidt Jr., who was white, was among two individuals killed; the other victim was 25-year-old male Tyrek Hill.
