In the spring of 2016, the life of 19-year-old Markee Liykim Brown was tragically cut short in Baltimore, Maryland. On April 19th, he was found in the 4000 block of Wilsby Avenue, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities responded to the scene, but Brown succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, he was an African-American male. His death was one of many instances of gun violence that plagued the city that year, contributing to the growing number of young lives lost.
Born on May 9, 1996, in Baltimore, Markee was the son of Catrina Taylor and Shawnwin Brown. He was actively working towards a better future, pursuing his GED with the State of Maryland. He had gained work experience at several places, including Morgan State University, Coppin State University, and Café Hun as a prep cook. Eventually, he found a position as a laborer with the State Highway Administration of Maryland. Known for his love of dancing, movies, and spending time with friends, he had a reputation for being a jokester who enjoyed making his loved ones laugh. He is survived by his parents, two siblings, and two grandmothers, along with a host of other family and friends.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation was launched into Markee's death. However, no immediate suspects were identified in the case. His homicide remains one of the many unsolved cases in the city of Baltimore. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Markee Liykim Brown, and his family and community continue to await justice for their loss.
