Jemile Shacorria Pittman, a 23-year-old African American woman from Orlando, Florida, tragically lost her life on December 8, 2021. Jemile, affectionately known as Milla, was found unresponsive inside a car at the intersection of Bren Lee Court and South Rio Grande Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that she had been shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Jemile succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Jemile's death prompted an immediate investigation by the Orange County
Sheriff's Office. Initially, there were no suspects or leads in the case, leaving her family and friends in a state of profound grief and uncertainty. Jemile, who worked in the fast food industry, was remembered as a loving daughter, sister, and friend who enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with her loved ones.
The investigation took a significant turn when Lorenzo Larry, a 17-year-old, was identified as a suspect in Jemile's murder. Larry was already facing second-degree murder charges for the death of another young woman, De’Shayla Ferguson, who was also found shot in Orange County. During the investigation, Larry admitted to shooting Jemile but claimed it was in self-defense. Despite his claim, he fled the scene, disposed of the gun, and left the state, actions that cast doubt on his self-defense argument.
As of the latest updates, the state attorney's office had not yet made a determination on whether to charge Larry in connection with Jemile's death. The case remains under review, with the community and Jemile's family awaiting justice for the young woman's untimely death.
