The couple resided in the Cedar Pointe condominium complex, a community for residents aged 55 and older. On the fateful day, Henry Wallace encountered his neighbor, Hugh Hootman, at the community mailbox.
According to reports, Hootman, 75, confronted Wallace, demanding an apology for a previous altercation involving Hootman's wife. Wallace allegedly ignored Hootman and attempted to walk past him. In a fit of rage, Hootman drew a 9mm pistol and shot Henry Wallace twice in the chest from a close range. Ginger Wallace, who came out of their home upon hearing the commotion, was also shot twice by Hootman, resulting in her immediate death.
The incident was rooted in an ongoing dispute between the neighbors over a community laundry room door that had been left open. Henry Wallace had previously confronted Hootman's wife about the issue, leading to a heated exchange.
