Edward T. McCartney, a 27-year-old officer with the San Francisco Police Department, tragically lost his life on September 3, 1907. The incident occurred at the corner of 24th Street and Folsom Street, where Officer McCartney encountered a striking car man who was intoxicated and causing a disturbance. When Officer McCartney informed the suspect that he would be arrested if he did not go home, the suspect, without warning, drew a pistol and shot Officer McCartney in the neck.
