On June 19, 2021, at approximately 2:55 a.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of Eddy and Larkin Streets. Upon arrival, they found 31-year-old Earl Jordan on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. Despite the officers' efforts to render aid, and subsequent medical attention from San Francisco Fire Department paramedics, Jordan was transported to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced
deceased.
The San Francisco Police Department's Homicide Detail immediately began an investigation into the incident. Through their efforts, they identified 25-year-old Alexander Phillips as a suspect. Phillips was initially arrested on June 29, 2021, by members of the SFPD Narcotics Detail at 10th and Bryant Streets for outstanding warrants unrelated to the homicide. These warrants included charges for burglary, attempted grand theft, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, resisting arrest, and possession of burglary tools.
Further investigation by homicide detectives, which included the examination of DNA evidence, led to the development of probable cause to arrest Phillips for the murder of Earl Jordan. On July 8, 2021, while Phillips was still in custody for the previous charges, he was formally arrested for the homicide. The charges against him included homicide, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm. Phillips remains in custody, and the investigation into the case is ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek additional information from the public.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing issues of gun violence and crime in urban areas, and the efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
