Captain Walter Hurman Auble, a distinguished officer of the Los Angeles Police Department, met a tragic end on September 9, 1908. At the age of 47, Captain Auble was shot and killed while investigating a series of burglaries. On that fateful day, he and another captain were tracking two suspects believed to be involved in multiple robberies and burglaries.
