Patrick Kearney, also known as "The Trash Bag Killer," was a prolific serial killer who preyed on young men and boys in California. He was known for luring his victims, often hitchhikers or young men he encountered, before murdering them, engaging in necrophilic acts, and disposing of their dismembered bodies in trash bags.
Kearney's criminal activities spanned from 1962 to 1977, during which he claimed numerous victims. His modus operandi involved shooting his victims, typically in the head, followed by postmortem sexual assault and dismemberment. The remains were often discarded in various locations, making it challenging for authorities to connect the crimes initially.
In 1977, Kearney was apprehended and subsequently confessed to the murders, including that of Michael Craig McGhee. He was convicted and is currently serving his sentence in prison.
