Game Warden Jean King Jones, Jr., aged 31, tragically lost his life on May 12, 1979, in West Pittsburg, California. He was responding to reports of gunshots at McAvoy's Yacht Harbor when he encountered an 18-year-old poacher. During the confrontation, Jones was shot twice in the leg with a .22 caliber handgun and subsequently beaten. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to reach his patrol car and call for help. Unfortunately, he succumbed to complications from blood loss two days later.
