On June 23, 1980, the body of 24-year-old Karen Jones was discovered behind a steakhouse in Burbank, California. She had been fatally shot in the head with a small-caliber pistol. Earlier that morning, around 2:00 to 2:30 a.m., Officer Guzzetta had encountered Jones on Sunset Boulevard, cautioning her against loitering in the area. Tragically, just hours later, she became one of the victims in a series of murders that would come to be known as the "Sunset Strip Killings."
