Gene W. Cox, aged 56, tragically lost his life on November 29, 1982, in Eureka, California. Cox, who was the Humboldt County Sheriff, was shot and killed while attempting to assist his father-in-law, Jack Alton, in a dispute at the Ebb Tide RV Park.
