Joseph Finzel, a 29-year-old resident of Torrance, California, tragically lost his life on May 8, 1993, during a violent home invasion. The incident occurred late at night when Randy Eugene Garcia, an Oregon man, broke into the Finzel home armed with a gun. Garcia had previously expressed an interest in committing a sexual assault at gunpoint, and on this fateful night, he acted on his intentions.
