Jesse Hernandez, a 46-year-old resident of Baldwin Park, Los Angeles, was tragically killed in a shooting incident on October 14, 2024. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 2:50 a.m., when the Baldwin Park Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting gunshots. Officers arrived at the scene on Kenmore Avenue and found Hernandez lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper chest.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:27 a.m. An autopsy conducted by the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner revealed that the cause of death was a perforating gunshot wound to the chest.
The investigation into Hernandez's death is being led by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and the case remains open. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. In a separate incident, another individual named Jesse Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence at Salinas Valley State Prison, was involved in a fatal altercation with his cellmate. This Hernandez, aged 38, was transferred to the prison from Los Angeles County in 2004 to serve a sentence for second-degree murder. While incarcerated, he received an additional 12-year sentence for an in-prison assault with a deadly weapon. The altercation resulted in the death of his cellmate, Colin Herbert, who was found unresponsive in their cell. Hernandez was placed in restrictive housing while the investigation into Herbert's death continues.
These two cases highlight the ongoing issues of violence and crime in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. The investigations are still active, and authorities are working diligently to bring justice to the victims and their families.
