Mack "Jody" Woodfox III, a 27-year-old resident of Oakland, California, tragically lost his life on July 5, 2008, in a police-involved shooting. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning near East 17th Street and Fruitvale Avenue in Oakland's Fruitvale District. According to reports, Officer Hector Jimenez, a relatively new recruit to the Oakland Police Department, fired multiple shots at Woodfox, hitting him in the back.
