On January 8, 2011, 15-year-old Lovell Hadnot was fatally shot in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland. The shooting occurred around 5:10 p.m. as Lovell was walking across a parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Lovell, a student at Mandela High School, became one of the youngest victims in a series of violent incidents that plagued Oakland in early 2011, much of it involving teenagers.
