On February 7, 2012, Manuel Levi Loggins Jr., a 31-year-old Marine sergeant, was fatally shot by an Orange County sheriff's deputy in San Clemente, California. The incident occurred in the early morning hours when Loggins, accompanied by his two daughters, crashed his SUV through a gate at San Clemente High School.
