Richard Thomas Steed, a 30-year-old police officer from San Clemente, California, tragically lost his life on November 29, 1978. Officer Steed was responding to a call for medical assistance on El Camino Real, where a person had claimed to have slashed their wrists in a suicide attempt. Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Steed was ambushed and shot by the individual who had faked the suicide attempt.
