Jose Duarte, a 26-year-old resident of Whittier, California, tragically lost his life on December 14, 2014, in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Lambert Road, just east of Santa Fe Springs Road. Duarte was walking with a 17-year-old girl when an argument erupted between him and individuals across the street at a convenience store. As they walked away, a silver or gray sedan drove by, and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking both Duarte and the girl.
