Eduardo Rebolledo, a 38-year-old resident of Los Angeles, California, tragically lost his life on October 7, 2015. Rebolledo was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a gang-related shooting in Canoga Park. On the evening of October 6, 2015, he was sitting in his pickup truck, preparing to drive home from work, when he was struck by a stray bullet. The incident occurred near the intersection of Eton Avenue and Sherman Way, an area known for gang activity.
Rebolledo, who worked at an air conditioning shop, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The investigation into Rebolledo's death revealed that the shooting was part of a car-to-car confrontation between rival gang members. The suspects, Ariel Baker Paniagua Jr., 22, and Hubaldo Martinez, 23, both alleged members of the Bryant Street gang, were charged with murder and attempted murder. They were accused of driving behind a car carrying three members of a rival gang and opening fire. One of the bullets went astray and struck Rebolledo, who was warming up his truck across the street from his workplace. Paniagua and Martinez pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and three counts of attempted, willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder.
In addition to the charges related to Rebolledo's death, Paniagua faced further legal troubles. He was also charged with another count of shooting at an occupied vehicle, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with a separate shooting incident on October 13, 2015. During this incident, Paniagua allegedly fired shots at a vehicle near his residence in Canoga Park. He was apprehended by police after being found hiding in the doorway of a nearby apartment complex.
The community was deeply affected by Rebolledo's death, leading to a March for Peace organized by local students and community leaders. The march aimed to support Rebolledo's family and to raise awareness about the violence plaguing their neighborhood. The tragic loss of Eduardo Rebolledo highlighted the ongoing issue of gang violence in Los Angeles and the devastating impact it has on innocent lives.
