Roosevelt Newton, a 34-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was tragically shot on December 10, 2015. The incident occurred near Orange Avenue and East Washington Street. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Newton succumbed to his injuries the following day, December 11, 2015. The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon shortly before 2:30 p.m. on December 10.

During this incident, Long Beach Police initiated a pursuit of a vehicle wanted for an armed carjacking in Los Angeles. The pursuit ended in a collision, and Jones, along with another suspect, was apprehended.
Following his arrest, detectives linked Jones to the murder of Roosevelt Newton. On January 22, 2016, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and Jones was subsequently charged with Newton’s murder. He was held on $4,000,000 bail at the LA County Men’s Central Jail. Jones was arraigned on January 27, 2016, and his next court appearance was scheduled for February 16, 2016.
