Huijie "Jennie" Yu, aged 29, tragically lost her life on March 23, 2016, in a horrific incident that also claimed the lives of her husband, Dr. Weidong "Henry" Han, and their five-year-old daughter, Emily Han. The family was found deceased in their home on Greenhill Way in Goleta, California. The discovery was made after a welfare check was conducted by sheriff's deputies.

The investigation led to the arrest of Pierre Haobsh, a 27-year-old business associate of Dr. Han. Haobsh was apprehended in San Diego County, and evidence found in his possession, including a loaded handgun and property belonging to one of the victims, linked him to the crime. The motive behind the murders was believed to be financial gain, as Haobsh was involved in a business deal with Dr. Han prior to the killings. The case was described by the authorities as one of the most diabolical and premeditated crimes they had encountered.
Haobsh was charged with three counts of murder, along with enhancements for committing murder for financial gain, committing multiple murders, and the intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
