Mark Le Roy Tyree Jr., a 15-year-old high school student, was tragically shot and killed on June 26, 2016, in the Westmont neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 8:26 p.m. while Tyree was hanging out with a 14-year-old friend in the driveway of his friend's home. A dark-colored sedan drove by, and at least one person inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Tyree multiple times.
