David Lemus, a 19-year-old resident of Hanford, California, tragically lost his life on July 10, 2016, in Huron, California. The incident occurred around midnight when Huron Police officers responded to a call regarding a physical disturbance at 36700 S. Lassen. While en route, dispatchers received another call reporting a man lying on the ground in a store parking lot across the street from the initial location. Upon arrival, officers found David Lemus with a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to Coalinga Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Huron Police Department requested the assistance of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit to take over the investigation. Detectives began working on leads, conducting interviews, and reviewing surveillance footage. Through these efforts, they identified Ignacio Sanchez, a 34-year-old documented gang member from Huron, as the shooter. Sanchez was already in custody at the Fresno County Jail on an unrelated charge when detectives arrested him for the murder of David Lemus. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and it is not confirmed whether the incident was gang-related. The case was submitted to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, which filed murder charges against Sanchez.
