On the morning of his death, Visalia police officers were dispatched to
the 200 block of North Park Street following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they found Heinrichs deceased inside his home, having been shot multiple times. The suspect, Glen Petree, a 50-year-old man who had been living with Heinrichs for a short period, was found in the front yard along with a teenage witness. Petree was immediately detained by the officers.
The investigation revealed that Heinrichs and Petree had been involved in an argument that escalated to violence. According to police reports, Petree retrieved a handgun during the altercation and shot Heinrichs multiple times.
