According to Francis, the shooter suddenly made a gang sign and began firing at Welch. The shooting occurred while many students and families were leaving the high school stadium's parking lot after the football game, causing panic and forcing players and their families to shelter in place.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to the reports of shots fired and initiated an investigation. The suspect, described as a black male around 20 years old with a medium build, remains at large. Welch's family has been vocal in their demand for justice, urging anyone with information to come forward. They have also set up a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral expenses and to honor Welch's memory.
