Desean Welch, an 18-year-old student from Victorville, California, tragically lost his life on September 16, 2016, in Moreno Valley. Welch, who was deaf, was fatally shot near Rancho Verde High School just as a football game was concluding. He was a student at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside and was known for his basketball skills, having earned a scholarship to attend USC with aspirations of playing in the NBA.
