A woman dies in a fire which was believed to be arson In the autumn of 2001, the life of 84-year-old Helen Caron, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short. On October 2nd of that year, a fire broke out in her apartment building on Ash Street in Lewiston, Maine. The blaze, which authorities believe was intentionally set, quickly engulfed the structure.
Helen was unable to escape the rapidly spreading flames and perished in the fire.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be arson, turning her unfortunate death into a homicide investigation. While it is believed that Helen herself was not the intended target of the arsonist, she became the unintended victim of a senseless criminal act.
In the years following the fire, several suspects have been interviewed by the Maine State Police in connection with the case.
