Luis Alberto Fuentes Jr., a 22-year-old Latino, tragically lost his life on October 16, 2017, in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles. According to reports, Fuentes was standing outside a liquor store near Graham Avenue and Firestone Boulevard around 4 p.m. when he and another young man were confronted by a Latino male in his early 20s. The confrontation quickly escalated, and the two men attempted to flee, running towards the Metro Blue Line Station.
However, the suspect pursued them onto the gravel area between the tracks, where he ultimately shot Fuentes. The other man managed to escape unharmed. Fuentes, who resided in Watts, was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m.
