On the night of November 10, 2017, tragedy struck in Bakersfield, California, when masked gunmen broke into an apartment on Pershing Street and opened fire. The intended target, a member of the West Side Crips gang, was not present. Instead, the gunfire hit 3-year-old Major Sutton, his 5-year-old brother, and their pregnant mother. Major Sutton succumbed to his injuries, while his brother and mother survived. The community was left in shock and demanded justice for the young boy's death.
