On a summer evening in Seattle, Washington, a young life was tragically cut short. Fourteen-year-old Ayub Asad Hashi, a male of Middle Eastern/Arab descent, was riding his scooter in the NewHolly neighborhood on June 27, 2024. At approximately 8:20 p.m., in the 7400 block of Rockery Drive South, the sound of gunfire shattered the evening calm. Ayub was struck by a gunshot to the chest.
First responders arrived at the scene to find the young teen gravely wounded.
Despite their efforts, the injury proved fatal. The King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound and officially ruled it a homicide. The community was left in shock and mourning over the violent loss of such a young member.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched to bring those responsible to justice. Law enforcement officers were able to identify a suspect vehicle and a chase ensued. The pursuit came to an end in Everett, where three individuals were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The arrests brought a small measure of hope to a grieving community that those involved in Ayub's death would be held accountable.
