Benito Lopez-Vasquez, a 46-year-old Latino male, was tragically shot and killed on February 18, 2019, in Chatsworth, Los Angeles. The investigation revealed that the shooting was connected to a business dispute over a multi-state cocaine smuggling ring. This operation involved transporting cocaine from California to the East Coast. The victims, including Lopez-Vasquez, were found dead in the common area on the first floor of the home. The other victims were identified as Gary O'Neil Davidson, 39, from Reseda, and Jesus Perez, 34, from Perris. Davidson, who rented the home, was involved in the drug-smuggling ring and had allowed the suspects into the residence to conduct an illegal narcotics transaction.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested three suspects in connection with the killings. Kenneth Peterson and Travis Reid, both 40 years old, were charged with murder with special circumstances, including sentencing enhancements for the multiple victims killed and the use of a gun. Peterson was arrested in Durham, North Carolina, while Reid was arrested in Randallstown, Maryland. Both men were held without bail. The third suspect, 40-year-old Chiquetta Cook, was arrested in Baltimore and charged with one count of murder. She was held on $2 million bail. The suspects were all members of the drug-smuggling ring and were awaiting extradition to Los Angeles.
