Charles Louis Nevils, a 33-year-old man from Los Angeles, was tragically shot and killed on April 9, 2016. The incident occurred in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood, specifically in the 6400 block of South Vermont Avenue. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, the shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. outside a liquor store. Nevils was involved in a physical altercation with another individual, which escalated quickly.
During the fight, Nevils was shot and subsequently staggered into the liquor store, where he collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Nevils' death led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect named Jordyn Clemons. Clemons was charged with one count of murder by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office on June 20, 2016. Witnesses at the scene helped identify Clemons as the shooter. According to the police, the altercation between Nevils and Clemons occurred just outside the liquor store, and it was during this confrontation that Clemons allegedly shot Nevils. Clemons pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 5, 2016, and was held on $3 million bail while awaiting further court proceedings.
