Kevin Williams, a 32-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, tragically lost his life on June 5, 2019, as a result of a shooting incident. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records, Williams was shot and killed in the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue. The incident occurred in the late afternoon, around 4:20 p.m., when officers responded to a call reporting a person with a gun. Upon arrival, they found Williams with gunshot wounds to his upper torso.
Despite the life-saving measures performed by the officers and paramedics, Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Williams' death revealed that he was involved in a transaction related to the sale of a large quantity of marijuana. The deal, which took place inside a vehicle, involved Williams, Devaris Watson, a 29-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, and Marquise Harris, a 26-year-old also from Memphis. The transaction turned violent when Williams and Watson disagreed over the terms, leading both men to brandish firearms and shoot at each other. Williams succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Watson was transported by Harris to a hospital in Gardena, where he later died from his wounds.
Following the incident, Marquise Harris was arrested on June 6, 2019, at a motel in Garden Grove. The Long Beach Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, which included serving search warrants at various locations. This led to the recovery of two firearms believed to be involved in the shooting, approximately two pounds of marijuana, and around $15,000 in cash. Harris was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He was held at a Los Angeles County Correctional Facility on $35,000 bail.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office on June 10, 2019. The investigation concluded that the incident was an isolated occurrence related to the illegal marijuana trade. Detectives continued to interview witnesses and gather evidence to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the relationship between the individuals involved. The tragic death of Kevin Williams highlighted the dangers associated with illegal drug transactions and the violent outcomes that can result from such activities.
