Raul Garcia, a 57-year-old resident of Antioch, California, tragically lost his life on September 1, 2019, following a violent confrontation. The incident began as a road rage altercation in Pittsburg, California, where Garcia and the suspects, Tearri Richard and Lakia Poles, had a heated exchange at a Chevron gas station. The conflict escalated when Poles, enraged by the near-collision, called her husband, Richard, to the scene.
Richard arrived and threatened Garcia, stating he would "spray them all" and "we're going to get you." As Garcia and his companions attempted to flee, Poles pursued them, providing Richard with their location updates.
The pursuit continued onto state Highway 4 and through the streets of Antioch. Despite Garcia's desperate attempts to evade them, Richard managed to locate their vehicle and fired three shots, one of which struck Garcia in the back. Garcia was found on St. Christopher Court and was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation led to the arrest of Richard and Poles, who were later charged with Garcia's murder. In November 2020, a Contra Costa County jury found both defendants guilty. Richard received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, while Poles was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
