Daunzhay Young, a 20-year-old resident of Antioch, California, was tragically shot and killed on August 29, 2020. The incident occurred in a quiet residential neighborhood on Tioga Pass Way. Young, who was an active member of the Case criminal street gang, was targeted by a rival gang known as ENT. The attack was part of an ongoing gang war that spanned from Oakland to Antioch, involving multiple shootings and violent confrontations between the two groups.
On the day of the murder, Young
was chased on foot and gunned down by a male suspect wielding a rifle-caliber AR pistol. The crime scene revealed thirty-two rifle casings, indicating the severity and brutality of the attack. This incident was not isolated, as Young had previously been shot in Antioch on July 13, 2020, highlighting the persistent danger he faced due to his gang affiliations.
The investigation into Young's murder was extensive and led to significant law enforcement actions. A multi-jurisdictional operation, known as Operation Windstar, was launched, involving 24 agencies and resulting in the arrests of 48 gang members and associates. The operation aimed to dismantle the violent activities of the rival gangs and curb the escalating gun violence in the region. During the operation, authorities seized 40 firearms, including 15 'ghost guns'—untraceable weapons without serial numbers—and over $100,000 in cash.
Among those arrested were 42-year-old Charles Bolden Sr. and his 19-year-old son, Charles Bolden Jr., who were identified as key figures in the rival gang. The investigation also led to the identification and arrest of 36 adults and 15 juveniles connected to drug sales, violence, and murder. The Contra Costa County District Attorney's office prioritized the prosecution of these individuals, emphasizing the commitment to reducing gang-related violence in the community.
The collaborative efforts of the Antioch and Oakland Police Departments, along with other law enforcement agencies, were crucial in addressing the gang violence that had plagued the area. The authorities expressed regret over the spread of gang violence from Oakland to Antioch and vowed to continue their relentless pursuit of justice and safety for the residents. The case of Daunzhay Young's murder underscored the broader issue of gang violence in the East Bay and the ongoing efforts to combat it through coordinated law enforcement actions and community engagement.
