Joseph Waary, an 18-year-old from Los Angeles, California, tragically lost his life on January 24, 2020. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records, Waary was shot and killed in the 9800 block of De Soto Avenue in Chatsworth. The incident occurred inside a marijuana dispensary where Waary was present with others. Around 11:26 a.m., he was shot, and the people with him, in a state of panic, rushed him to a hospital.
Unfortunately, Waary was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m.
The suspect in this case was identified as Jeffrey Ivan Bustamante Jr., a 19-year-old Latino. Bustamante was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of possession of a firearm with a prior misdemeanor conviction. The charges included an allegation that Bustamante used a semiautomatic handgun. Bustamante pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to appear in court on March 4, 2020.
The investigation revealed that Waary was initially shot at the marijuana dispensary before being transported to the hospital. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) sought the public’s help in gathering more information about the incident. They encouraged anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
