On July 25, 2023, at approximately 8:24 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers from the Southeast Division responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of San Pedro and West 87th streets in South Los Angeles. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Waldemar Napoleon Lucero lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite prompt assistance from Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office later identified the victim as Waldemar Napoleon Lucero, born on October 13, 1985. Public records indicate that Lucero had a prior arrest in 2014 for DUI-related offenses in Los Angeles County.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials initiated a homicide investigation. However, as of the latest available information, no suspect descriptions have been released, and no arrests have been made in connection with Lucero's death. The case remains unsolved, with authorities continuing to seek leads from the community to identify and apprehend the individual or individuals responsible for this crime.
A memorial service for Lucero was held on August 19, 2023, at Fellowship Christian Community Church in Los Angeles, followed by a burial at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
