Causandra Inocencio, a 40-year-old resident of San Jose, was tragically killed on October 10, 2020, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Milpitas, California. The incident occurred around 10:16 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Inocencio suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention and being transported to a nearby hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The primary suspect in this case was identified as Kevin James Gitmed, a
35-year-old man from Gilroy with a history of domestic violence convictions. Gitmed and Inocencio had previously been in a relationship, and it was reported that Inocencio had filed for a protective order against him due to ongoing harassment and stalking. Following the shooting, a manhunt was launched to locate Gitmed, who was considered armed and dangerous. A $20,000 reward was offered by Mothers Against Murder for information leading to his capture.
On October 14, 2020, Gitmed was found dead in a hotel room in Merced County. Law enforcement officers, including detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service, had tracked him to the location and attempted to apprehend him. When Gitmed failed to respond to their commands, they entered the room and discovered his body. The circumstances of his death were under investigation by the Merced County Sheriff's Office.

Her cousin, Jeanine Barron, described her as having a big heart and a talent for making people laugh. Inocencio also had a successful side business knitting blankets, which she sold online.
