Rudy Mendez, a 35-year-old resident of Corcoran, California, tragically lost his life on the evening of October 24, 2020. The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Dairy Avenue, where Mendez was shot outside his home. Witnesses reported seeing a dark vehicle approach the residence, from which a single gunman emerged and fired multiple shots before being driven away by another individual in the vehicle. Mendez was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The Corcoran Police Department, in collaboration with the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force, launched an intensive investigation into the homicide. Their efforts quickly led to the identification and arrest of 32-year-old Eddie Rosas from Fresno. Rosas was apprehended the following day in Fresno with the assistance of the Fresno Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium and the U.S. Department of Justice High Impact Investigation Team. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and gang enhancement, among other charges. Rosas was booked into the Kings County Jail and held without bail.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of a second suspect, 24-year-old Michaela Kirkpatrick from Kerman. Authorities determined that Kirkpatrick was the driver of the vehicle used in the shooting. She was arrested on October 27, 2020, with the assistance of the Kerman Police Department and the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force. Kirkpatrick faced charges of murder and conspiracy and was also booked into the Kings County Jail.
The case against Rosas and Kirkpatrick highlighted the potential gang-related motives behind the shooting. Both suspects were linked to gang activities, which added complexity to the investigation. The Corcoran Police Department continued to explore connections between this incident and other crimes in the area, seeking to uncover any broader criminal networks involved.
