Amina Duro, a 24-year-old mother from Desert Hot Springs, California, tragically lost her life on November 7, 2020. The incident occurred on the 66700 block of Eighth Street, where officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they found Duro suffering from a single gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene. The suspect in this case was identified as Jesse Rico Valenzuela, the father of Duro's children. Valenzuela, who was on probation at the time for a 2018 felony spousal abuse conviction, was arrested and charged with murder, along with two felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one misdemeanor count each of resisting arrest, evading police in a vehicle, and violating a court order.
The relationship between Duro and Valenzuela had been marked by domestic violence, and there was a court order in place barring Valenzuela from contacting Duro. Despite this, the tragic events unfolded, leaving Duro's four young daughters without their mother.
