Emmanuel Alfaro Arechiga, an 18-year-old from Bakersfield, California, tragically lost his life on December 31, 2020. The incident occurred near Wilson Park, where Arechiga was found after being shot. According to reports, Arechiga managed to drive himself to the park after being shot in the 2800 block of Morin Court. Upon arrival, he was accompanied by an 18-year-old woman who called for help. Unfortunately, Arechiga was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office identified him shortly after the incident, and his family set up a GoFundMe account to cover funeral expenses.
The investigation revealed that Arechiga and his girlfriend had gone to Morin Court to purchase a gun from a 17-year-old. However, upon arrival, they were ambushed by the seller and his accomplice, Anthony Daniel. The situation escalated into a robbery, during which Arechiga did not resist and raised his hands, pleading, "Don't shoot, don't shoot." Despite his compliance, Daniel fired a shot through the rear driver’s side passenger window, hitting Arechiga in the back. The suspects then took Arechiga's wallet and fled the scene. Arechiga's girlfriend drove him to Wilson Park, where she called 911, but he succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
The legal proceedings following Arechiga's death were extensive. Anthony Daniel, who was 19 at the time of the crime, was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and assault with a gun. He was sentenced to 69 years to life in prison. The 17-year-old accomplice, Vincent Hines, was also found guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree robbery, and weapons charges. Initially charged as a juvenile, Hines' case was later moved to adult court, and he received a sentence of 45 years to life in prison. The convictions were supported by witness testimonies and extensive social media evidence linking the suspects to the crime.
