On January 7, 2021, Octavio Varela Gutierrez, a 30-year-old resident of Watsonville, California, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. while Gutierrez was driving on South Green Valley Road. He was shot at least once in the upper torso, leading to his death. This marked the first homicide in Santa Cruz County for the year 2021.
