Enzo Marino Rastelli, a 19-year-old from Goleta, California, tragically lost his life on January 7, 2021, in a shooting incident. The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Burtis Street, an area often referred to as "Noleta." Enzo was in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle with another 19-year-old in the driver's seat when a suspect approached and began shooting at them. Enzo suffered fatal injuries, while the other victim was critically injured but survived.
The suspect, described as a male in his early 20s, either white or Hispanic with dark hair, fled the scene and remains at large. The motive for the shooting was initially unclear, and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office urged residents to check their security systems for any suspicious activity around the time of the incident.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting was part of a drug deal gone wrong. Enzo and his friend, Jasper Van der Meulen, were attempting to sell marijuana when they were ambushed. The shooter, a 15-year-old boy associated with the Westside criminal street gang, was later apprehended and pled guilty to the murders. Due to his age, he was sentenced to seven years in a youth treatment facility. In addition to the juvenile shooter, Bryan Munoz and Joshua Vega were also implicated in the case. Munoz was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and received a 13-year prison sentence.
